Twist & Shout

Her anatomy defied all conventional wisdom, what they didn’t know was how much this had changed her. Powers unlimited in scope and breadth were hers to call upon at all hours of the night and day, seasons be damned. This was not without some measure of pain, however and she could be heard shouting in the rafters on occasion.

A twisted little necklace pretty enough for any gallery. Gilded frame, ancient anatomical/medical image coated with resin sealant, and beautiful vintage chain in a dusky seafoam color with rosary faux pearls. The image background is a pale dusty pink color; difficult to caption with the camera. I think it is best represented in the last photo.

I’m not going to promise that questions won’t be asked when you wear this.

One of a kind, ready to ship.

Agnes Sugar Skull

Agnes has done so many terrible things, things she initially believed to be fair and true, that she fears for her soul on a constant basis. She would appreciate forgiveness.

Handcarved and hand painted day of the dead sugar skull bead. Made from glimmery pearlescent clay, each comes with a tattered mourning bow and dangling charm (Agnes’ is a pale blue vintage teardrop crystal). Skulls are decorated front, sides and back. 16″ black chain.

OOAK, ready to ship.

Electric Eccentric

A truly eccentric tribal curation of natural and manmade elements make up this beaded adornment, from African glass to tufted fiber, tiny vertebrae and a toothsome focal. Look closely and you’ll see tiny lightbuls strewn throughout, the detritus of an imagined life. Includes two vintage buttons, one covered in kimono silk. Around the world in one neckpiece! Post or pre-apocalyptic, you decide. Reclaimed Indian sari fiber allow this necklace to be worn close to the throat or longer. If you would like it finished to a particular length, I’m happy to accommodate your request.

Pardon Me Sir

In reality, the outcome of the trial had already been decided by the Committee of Public Safety around the time the Carnation Plot was uncovered, and she was declared guilty of treason in the early morning of 16 October, after two days of proceedings. Back in her cell, she composed a letter to her sister-in-law Madame Élisabeth, affirming her clear conscience, her Catholic faith and her feelings for her children. The letter did not reach Élisabeth.

On the same day, her hair was cut off and she was driven through Paris in an open cart, wearing a plain white dress. At 12:15 p.m. 16 October 1793, two and a half weeks before her thirty-eighth birthday, Marie Antoinette was beheaded at the Place de la Révolution. Her last words were “Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it”, to Henri Sanson the executioner, whose foot she had accidentally stepped on after climbing the scaffold. Her body was thrown into an unmarked grave in the Madeleine cemetery, rue d’Anjou.

Oh… but before all that, she wore the most gorgeous corsets and gowns, entertained young men and women, sipped tea and ate little cakes, and maybe, perhaps, wore earrings not unlike these. Inspired by the doomed queen, these fancies combine vintage Florentine styled patinated verdigris faux-opal (but insanely realistic) dangles with sweetest handcrafted fired clay gilded beads that make me think of nothing but cake! Let them eat it!

Absolutely one of a kind bohemian chic, and ready to ship. Brass leverbacks.

Nothing to be Said

For nations vague as weed,
For nomads among stones,
Small-statured cross-faced tribes
And cobble-close families
In mill-towns on dark mornings
Life is slow dying.

Philip Larkin, from Nothing to be Said

A necklace for the brave tribes, licorice black and brilliant neon curation of beads. Includes vintage, glass, Indonesian, African, black coral, wood, vintage, handmade polymer clay, and an unbelievable dental fossil clay focal by Vlad the Bat. Simultaneously frightening and delicious, like some kind of dangerous candy.

20 inches + focal, with handcrafted toggle clasp. I am fairly certain there really is just nothing (more) to be said.

He Waits for Thee

It is unbearable to think about
this gentle man upon a velvet couch
who waits for thee with kisses
in his thoughts and sometimes darker
wishes hence.

A Victorian poem of longing and love for you to wear. Vintage sepia image beneath domed resin, vintage mesh metal bow, gold metallic and pink satin ribbon trim and deep wine-colored pleated velvet frame. A length of tattered black grosgrain mourning ribbon is used to tie around your neck and can be replaced with brass chain for a small fee; just convo. Aside from the gentleman’s come-hither look, this also has a very Victorian mourning feel to it.

Packaged delightfully for gifting to yourself of some other waiting love.

Club Paradise

No man is an island Jack
You could be tougher than a rock
One and one’s got to make contact
To get on the right track yeah
When you see in your life something missing
And for all the good things that you’re wishing
There’s a place you can go where the vibes are nice just like paradise
Sweet paradise, sweet paradise, club paradise, sweet paradise

Jimmy Cliff, Club Paradise

Island breezes, ocean salt and rhythmic drum beats from afar. A gorgeous bohemian curation in the form of a tribal-infused necklace features beads from many lands (Africa, Czech, India, etc.), vintage reclaimed Indian sari fiber, bone skull, vertebrae bead, encased game piece with lucky number 3, destroyed and rusted bottle cap/hardware, vintage industrial chain. HitchPin: Key to My Heart

How often have you found yourself getting dressed in the morning and stating aloud to your cat: If only I had the perfect pin to hitch up my skirt so I can show off my lacy tulle petticoat underneath? Routinely, right? I thought so! I am here to grant your wish, oh romantic girl.

Beautiful vintage copper pin (D19), bedecked with a cluster of charms, beads, rhinestones, and hella vintage goodness. This one has an amazing 1940’s bumpy heart charm (looks like a locket but doesn’t open), a lovely riveted key, delicate chains, a crusty tiny vintage heart charm, rhinestone finding and and curated tribal and glass beads… a collection for your bohemian gypsy soul. Colors are all warm brass and rose, neutral enough to really go with anything.

Wear it as I designed, to hoist up your skirt or dress, or certainly in a more traditional way on your lapel or coat, as a scarf pin or to keep a shawl closed. Quite versatile, the pin works in both a vertical and horizontal orientation. IMPORTANT: this is not a pin for delicate fabrics. It is a substantial vintage pin and best used on sweaters, or flannels/wools or any fabric you are not too worried about punching a bit of a hole into.

LAST IMAGE SHOWS a different pin (also listed) in use hitching up a skirt. This listing is for the pin pictured in the other photos.

Space Junk

Dateline: 2011.
Sw 1644+57: Black hole eats star and then
blasts 3.8 billion light-year beam at Earth.
Research has confirmed that the flash from one of the biggest and brightest bangs yet recorded by astronomers comes from a massive black hole at the center of a distant galaxy. The black hole appears to have ripped apart a star that wandered too close, creating a powerful beam of energy that crossed the 3.8 billion light years to Earth.

An amazing necklace to celebrate this astrological event, features intricate handcrafted, double-sided porcelain focal charm and a pretty outstanding collection of other stuff, including a quartz crystal point, vintage, new, and handcrafted beads, ancient metal and glass buttons, + Indian sari fiber. Colors are really beautiful and unique, including neon yellows and orangey reds that can’t be picked up on digital images.

Blast your own light beam wearing this one of a kind work of art. Ready to ship.

To Memory

To Memory

Strange Power, I know not what thou art,
Murderer or mistress of my heart.
I know I’d rather meet the blow
Of my most unrelenting foe
Than live—as now I live—to be
Slain twenty times a day by thee.

Yet, when I would command thee hence,
Thou mockest at the vain pretence,
Murmuring in mine ear a song
Once loved, alas! forgotten long;
And on my brow I feel a kiss
That I would rather die than miss.

–Mary Elizabeth Coleridge

A dear pair of memory earrings feature vintage hand tarnished findings with crusted rhinestones, heart, tooth, and leaf charms + tiny beads. Hand crafted ear wires are wrapped and tribal-beaded.

Sale: He Just Wasn’t

I’ll tell you the story of Cloony the Clown
Who worked in a circus that came through town.
His shoes were too big and his hat was too small,
But he just wasn’t, just wasn’t funny at all.
He had a trombone to play loud silly tunes,
He had a green dog and a thousand balloons.
He was floppy and sloppy and skinny and tall,
But he just wasn’t, just wasn’t funny at all.
And every time he did a trick,
Everyone felt a little sick.
And every time he told a joke,
Folks sighed as if their hearts were broke.
And every time he lost a shoe,
Everyone looked awfully blue.
And every time he stood on his head,
Everyone screamed, “Go back to bed!”
And every time he made a leap,
Everybody fell asleep.
And every time he ate his tie,
Everyone began to cry.

Saying for ever, “Cat! … Cat! … Cat!…

Dmitri Moth

Dmitri Moth is ready to alight upon your lapel, your backpack, a sweater, any place you need a little friend. Best of all, he does NOT eat wool, although would appreciate a small bread crumb from time to time. Dmitri is elegant in red, black and gold, and has been fashioned entirely by hand from vintage reclaimed tin. He has a special dangling gem which makes him extra glamorous. Cut from a pattern, riveted together, and then given a special patina for a rustic aged appearance, he is one of a kind and ready to fly home to you.

Please note: Although the moth pins are truly adorable, and are carefully filed and sanded, they are not appropriate for children, as a stray edge could be slightly sharp. Due to their weight, these brooches are not appropriate for wear on very fine fabrics such as silk, gauze, or extra tissue-weight cottons.

Thee Poison Pen – Aphra Behn

“All women together ought to let flowers fall upon the tomb of Aphra Behn, which is, most scandalously but rather appropriately, in Westminster Abbey, for it was she who earned them the right to speak their minds. It is she–shady and amorous as she was–who makes it not quite fantastic for me to say to you tonight: Earn five hundred a year by your wits.”

Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own

Sale: Let Them Eat Cake

In April 1770, on the day of her marriage to Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette became Dauphine of France. She assumed the title of Queen when her husband ascended the throne in May 1774. After seven years of marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Marie Thérèse, the first of four children.

Initially charmed by her personality and beauty, the French people generally came to dislike her, accusing “L’Autre-chienne” (a pun playing with the words Autrichienne meaning Austrian (woman) and Autre-chienne meaning Other bitch), of being a spendthrift and promiscuous, and of harboring sympathies for France’s enemies, particularly Austria, her country of origin.

Eternally charmed by  the spendthrifty promiscuous other bitch, I’ve trapped her image (and one of her famous cakes) into a micro thin glass rustic soldered frame, with fleur-de-lis embellishment. Lighter weight than it may appear in these photos, and strung on a gorgeous 36 inch length of vintage sari ribbon from India for tying behind the neck or off to the side. Frame itself is 1.5 x 2 inches, curved filigree adds 5/8 inch.

One of a kind, ready to ship.

Vacant Lot in Bronzeville

This was where they played, sometimes in joy and other times in sorrow, amidst debris and broken swings, dreams undeterred.

Bronzeville is a neighborhood located in the Douglas and Grand Boulevard community areas on the South Side of the City of Chicago. In the early 20th century, Bronzeville was known as the “Black Metropolis,” one of the nation’s most significant landmarks of African-American urban history. Between 1910 and 1920, during the peak of the “Great Migration,” the population of the area increased dramatically when thousands of African-Americans fled the oppression of the south and emigrated to Chicago in search of industrial jobs. Many famous people were associated with the development of the area including: Andrew “Rube” Foster, founder of the Negro National Baseball League; Ida B. Wells, a civil rights activist, journalist and organizer of the NAACP; Margaret Taylor-Burroughs, noted artist, author, and one of the co-founders of the DuSable Museum of African American History; Bessie Coleman, the first African-American woman pilot; Gwendolyn Brooks, famous author and first African-American recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, actress Marla Gibbs, legendary singers Sam Cooke and Lou Rawls, and Louis Armstrong, the legendary trumpet player and bandleader who performed at many of the area’s night clubs.

The name Bronzeville itself was first used in 1930, by James J. Gentry, a local theater editor for the Chicago Bee publication. It refers to the brown skin color of African-Americans, who predominated in that area. It has become common usage throughout the decades.

A seriously mixed media bangle bracelet that includes, but is not limited to: rusted scrap from Chicago, IL, lovely gilded seed beads and glass Czech pearls, rusty hardware and wire, brass ring with lucky, evocative charms, and deepest blue-black tattered scrap of Sari silk ribbon. PLEASE NOTE: This bracelet is truly smallish and would work on a petite person with small hands and wrists. It does not open, but slips over the hand, when fingers are closed to their narrowest configuration. It fits me perfectly, my wrist is 6 inches and my hands are fairly child-sized. If you purchase this and it does not fit, you may certainly return it in unused condition within 10 days. Sorry, I can not refund or pay return shipping.

One of a kind, ready to ship.

I See Myself in You

It was curious to think that the sky was the same for everybody, in Eurasia or Eastasia as well as here. And the people under the sky were also very much the same–everywhere, all over the world, hundreds or thousands of millions of people just like this, people ignorant of one another’s existence, held apart by walls of hatred and lies, and yet almost exactly the same–people who had never learned to think but were storing up in their hearts and bellies and muscles the power that would one day overturn the world. George Orwell

Mixed media tribal gypsy necklace features a global collection of painted wood, glass, metal, and ceramic beads. Focal is a vintage, ancient, large mirrored finding from India. The back of the mirror has been collaged with magazine clippings and treasured paper ephemera. Vintage tea-stained lace and striped bakery twine fiber flow from the base. This long necklace slips over the head, is one of a kind, and ready to ship.

Bones & Candy

Tripping through the high desert or dancing at midnight in Dubai, this delicious neck candy will help you celebrate. Deceptively simple, deceptively sweet, this charming choker-length necklace features a smooth polka-dotted camel bone focal (probably Afghanistan), dear tiny seed beads, little snake vertebrae, and vintage sugar beads in sunny yellow. The beaded clasp uses a vintage glass Victorian button. Not really edible, but one of a kind and ready to ship.

Ancient Games

On playgrounds everywhere, from Ancient Greece, to Rome, Egypt, and my hometown of Columbus Ohio, Jacks has been played for centuries. Mixed media tribal circus necklace features giant handcrafted clay jack focal, ancient and shabby reclaimed ceiling tin, and a collection of colorful beads and bones from global sources. Front toggle clasp is also handmade from clay. This playful circus-tribal necklace is one of a kind, ready to ship.
