Hazardous Adventure

“Never fear quarrels, but seek hazardous adventures.”Alexandre Dumas

Adventurous, rustic wanderer’s ring, formed with a trio of rough citrine, amethyst and quartz point gemstone crystals. A Rose Is

“A rose is a rose is a rose.”Gertrude Stein

Gertrude Stein was a noted American art collector of seminal modernist paintings and an experimental writer of novels, poetry and plays, which eschewed the narrative, linear, and temporal conventions of 19th century literature. She was born in West Allegheny (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, raised in Oakland, California, and moved to Paris in 1903, making France her home for the remainder of her life. For some forty years, the Stein home on the Left Bank of Paris would become a renowned Saturday evening gathering place for expatriate American artists and writers, and others noteworthy in the world of vanguard arts and letters

Rustic rose ring made from a very vintage button, mounted on a lovely scroll adjustable ring base. Metal-leafed in gold and warm coppery tones, then oxydized and sealed. Should fit most sizes. Smaller hands will likely wear on index or middle finger. This ring looks really lovely with the gemstone rock rings also listed on the site.

One of a kind, ready to ship.

Sale: Verte

“Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”Pedro Calderon de la Barca

A lovely rustic, calming ring, formed of rough green calcite gemstone. Metal-leafed in gold and warm coppery tones over an adjustable brass ring base, then oxydized and sealed. Should fit most sizes. Smaller hands will likely wear on index or middle finger. Note, calcite is a slightly softer stone, so if you like punching walls while wearing your jewelry, this is not for you.

One of a kind, ready to ship.

Harmonics

“Color is a plastic means of creating intervals… color harmonics produced by special relationships, or tensions. We differentiate now between formal tensions and color tensions, just as we differentiate in music between counterpoint and harmony.”Hans Hoffman

A rustic, musical ring, formed of rough amethyst and citrine crystals. Metal-leafed in gold and warm coppery tones over an adjustable brass ring base, then oxydized and sealed. Should fit most sizes. Smaller hands will likely wear on index or middle finger.

New York Harajuku

Absolutely cutest and snuggliest handcrafted (not by me) hoodie EVER. Love love love this piece, but it was too small when I bought it and magically enough STILL too small. 🙁 My loss, your gain. Acquired from a crafts fair, this handmade item is skillfully designed and sewn with handprinted New York City fleece, dusky rose fleece, and faux fur lining the hood. Adorable red trim around side pockets. BOO HOO, I love this cozy warm number.

Would best fit a size 2-4, up to 34 chest. Just the right length to hit the top of your jeans and looks adorable paired with Harajuku Cupcake skirt as shown, sold separately. Purchase these two garments together and get $15 back to your PayPal. How tempting is that???? This piece can also be rocked in more sophiste way with your skinny denim or a pencil skirt or just go full on lolita lollipop and enjoy yo’self. Sleeves have a little xtra length, hipster-style.

Condition: New, barely worn condition. Price is about half the original.

Shipping: Much harder to estimate shipping on clothing and accessories than jewelry. If you are overcharged by more than $2, I will refund your PayPal account when I get back from the PO.

Returns: I want you to be happy and buying clothing/accessories without trying on first can be a challenge. If item arrives and doesn’t fit, AND you email me within 3 days of reciept, I will accept a return. You’ll have to cover return shipping. When item arrives, and providing it is in the same condition as when it left here, I will refund via PayPal minus shipping. Shipping to you will not be refunded.

Harajuku Cupcake

I fell in love with Japanese Harajuku style many years ago via the publication of the book, Fruits. If you haven’t seen it… run do not walk to get yourself a copy. There is also a second volume out, but I love the first best. The parade of lollipop color and toothache sweet dollbaby costuming continues in the famed district and has washed upon these shores, most particularly Best Coast. Here is my handcrafted Cupcake skirt; I don’t think I can wear it anymore tho I love it dearly, it’s time for it to find a new home. Won’t you take this sugar out for a spin? Created from several garments, the bottom layer is a very vintage slip poking out and giving it lots of poof… the top is stretchy tshirt fabric in black/white stripes and there’s vintage ball fringe in bright green and NEON yellow.

This will best fit a size 4-6, up to smallish 8. Wear it short n’ sassy on its own, or layer over another longer skirt as I did for a (potentially) more mature version of the look. Works in all seasons, all terrains! Shown here paired with handcrafted New York hoodie, sold separately. BUT, buy both together and recieve a $15 refund to your PayPal account upon purchase. You know you want to!

Condition: Vintage materials, so not perfect, but great condition. There may be a little fringe ball missing here or there but doesn’t detract in the slightest.

Sale: Velvet Goldmine

A romantic pairing of goods, being sold together b/c I can’t bear to separate them. I’ve had this amazing vintage velvet handbag for about a million years. Although it has a truly 40’s vibe, I believe from the label that it is a 70’s era 40’s-revival. So, that means it’s only about 50+ years old (!). Deep rust color with a lovely tortoise shell frame and wonderful clasp. See photo with hand for size reference.

The other piece is a necklace I purchased from New Orleans etsy seller Bayou Salvage, whose shop seems to be down or I’d provide a link. Her work is lovely and, I believe, was at one time carried by anthropolgie. This necklace is a very dear construction of leather and scrap, including pieces of a crazy quilt. Silver chain, about 18 inches, but email me to confirm.

If you’re a romantic modern urban vintage type, or maybe a glam-inspired girl, these precious goodies are just your thing. Great for all seasons with your winter woolens or summer linens. A steal at this price and would make a lovely holiday gift package for someone special, including YOU!

Condition: Both pieces are in excellent perfect shape. The purse IS vintage, but with no flaws and clasp works well. Necklace is tattery, but that’s the style.

Shipping: Much harder to estimate shipping on clothing and accessories than jewelry. If you are overcharged by more than $2, I will refund your PayPal account when I get back from the PO.

Returns: This pairing is final sale since you don’t need to try these pieces on. Email me if you have any questions, ok?

Sale: Was $65, now $56

Arms Akimbo

It’s punk rock gear for your next stay at the mental hospital and/or rehab or maybe a night out at a dank club. Terribly adorable little cotton sweater, shredded, tagged and chopped to smithereens for a super bad post apocalyptic stance. Colors hard to photograph, but mostly black and metallic silver with neon pink and bits of green… has an almost camo affect. Note, the paint interacted to stiffen the cotton some, but it wears beautifully, comfortably, and is ready to rock.

Size is xs-small. Fits me in a snug sort of shrunken way so if you like that look (and I do) it could work from a size 2 up to about a small size 8  up to 36 chest. Sleeves are three quarter and overall length isn’t cropped but is short. Stay tuned for a model photo of this one, which will help ya visualize just how badass it is. Price based on cost of sweater, time spent, and amount of spray paint fumes inhaled for the sake of fashion

Condition: Wonderfully miserable and full of holes, but that’s the point, no? Brand newly purchased sweater was then tortured to the max. Some unraveling may continue, but probably not too much as the knit seems to lock up well.

This is What Freedom Looks Like

Perfect for a hot and breezy summer festival or a celebration of any kind. Wire wrapped in vintage silk sari fiber, tribal beads, seed and bugle beads, African record sequins, Victorian milky glass button, shell “tooth” and gloriously glamorous faceted Czech glass crystal focal. These are truly one of a kind. Medium, wearable weight with brass leverbacks as shown.

Storyville

The Storyville District, two blocks from the French Quarter in New Orleans, was set up to limit prostitution to one area of town where authorities could monitor and regulate the practice. In the late 1890s, the New Orleans city government studied the legalized red light districts of northern German and Dutch ports and set up Storyville based on such models. Between 1895 and 1915, “blue books” were published in Storyville. These books were guides to prostitution for visitors to the district’s services including house descriptions, prices, particular services and the “stock” each house had to offer. The Storyville blue-books were inscribed with the motto: “Order of the Garter: Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense (Shame to Him Who Evil Thinks).”

Establishments in Storyville ranged from cheap “cribs” to more expensive houses, and finally to a row of elegant mansions along Basin Street for well-heeled customers. New Orleans’ cribs were 50-cent joints, whereas the more expensive establishments could cost up to $10. Black and white brothels coexisted in Storyville; however, black men were barred from legally purchasing services rendered in either black or white brothels. Nonetheless, brothels with black prostitutes serving blacks openly flourished with the full knowledge of the police and other local authorities a short distance uptown from Storyville proper.

Mixed media necklace features truly amazing clay focal heart and a romaticly baroque mix of beads, chain, fiber, shell, a vintage bisque doll arm and rusted Storyville key. One of a kind art for wearing.

Philip Moth

Philip Moth is ready to alight upon your lapel, your backpack, a sweater, any place you need a little friend. Best of all, he does NOT eat wool, although would appreciate a small bread crumb from time to time. Philip is a mod little guy who once flitted about Carnaby Street flirting with the London lasses. He has been fashioned entirely by hand from vintage reclaimed tin. He has a special dangling gem which makes him extra glamorous. Cut from a pattern, riveted together, and then given a special patina for a rustic aged appearance, he is one of a kind and ready to fly home to you.

Please note: Although the moth pins are truly adorable, and are carefully filed and sanded, they are not appropriate for children, as a stray edge could be slightly sharp. Due to their weight, these brooches are not appropriate for wear on very fine fabrics such as silk, gauze, or extra tissue-weight cottons.

The Deceit

If you were going to the ball at the invitation of the Prince, and due to economic circumstances well beyond your control  you were unable to purchase those diamond earrings from Tiffany’s, I think you should consider the very next best thing: Rescued antique chandelier crystals with lovely baroque pearls that will sparkle and flirt from elongated gold vermeil wires. A certain deceit? Perhaps. The Prince? He’s yours.

Slightly crusted with patina in both antique black and a tiny bit of verdigris. Just the right amount. Genuine baroque pearls and elongated gold vermeil ear wires.

Alternative elegance, one of a kind, ready to ship.

Art + Soul + Industry

Minimalist goodness created from parts of dismantled found earrings, vintage brass charms, a rubber washer (black on one side, barn red on the other) from my boyfriend’s father’s toolbench. All tarnished to a rich black. Long, light, lean with lots of swingy movement. One of a kind, ready to ship.

All’s Fair

From the top of the ferris wheel we wave to the tiny people below and sneak a kiss while mother isn’t looking. For lunch it’s hot buttered corn and candy apples… later we’ll watch the judging in the sheep barn and visit with those crazy 4-H kids. How can you eat your pet?, we’ll whisper behind their backs… of course they hear us and glare, we feel it as we turn away.

Pretty beaded State Fair hoop earrings feature amazing vintage tin couples in itty bitty ferris wheel seats, javanse red/white striped peppermint glass barrels, glass seed beads, African trade Christmas beads, and other eclectic goodies in candy colors. Mannequin hand is life-sized average female for size reference. One of a kind, lightweight, ready to ship.

Djuna Barnes

We are beginning to wonder whether a servant girl hasn’t the best of it after all. She knows how the salad tastes without the dressing, and she knows how life’s lived before it gets to the parlor door.
Djuna Barnes

And here is the servant girl’s bracelet, handcrafted from a vintage cuff and a terrifically old button stitched on with wire. Additional embellisments include vintage rhinestone chain and a small crystal. Tarnished and waxed to post-apocalyptic perfection.

One of a kind and could fit many wrists. My wrist, very small at 5.75 inches, is too small for this piece; it won’t close tight enough for the button to stay atop. I believe it will work for any wrist that is 6.25 inches or larger.

You Will Sleep Well

Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleave of care
The death of each day’s life, sore labour’s bath
Balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course,
Chief nourisher in life’s feast.
~William ShakespeareMacbeth

Dreamy earrings of labradorite (flashing blue and green) and golden seed beads, with deepest red glass leaf charms from India that make me think of hearts. They are rather translucent, but hard to photograph that way. Special vintage findings, patina’d by hand. Brass leverbacks, the only pair, and ready to ship. Fortune included.

Happiness

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.
–Helen Keller

You are one such spirit, a gypsy at heart who dances on the pavement of city streets with flowers in your eyes and stars in your hair, always bringing happiness to others. Both intriciate in detail and simple in design, these sunshine earrings feature woven wire seed beads in coppery metallics and neon yellow & pink, with wire-wrapped natural crystal points. I seem them with a summery dress or to bring a little summer anytime. Brass leverbacks, sweetly asymmetrical, and ready to ship.

You Are Gifted

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.
–Marie Curie

In what ways are you gifted? In many ways, no doubt! Lovely asymmetry for your ears expresses the variety of your gifts in gorgeous blue/green-flash labradorite and faceted cut glass, with brass filigree and vintage, heavily patina’d dangles. One of a kind, ready to ship. Fortune included.

Raspberry Tea

Sweet and berry-ripe, with a warm amber glow, these earrings feature cut-glass, raspberry jade, pale pink vintage finding and brass filigree caps. Brass leverbacks. One of a kind and ready to ship.

Deep Appreciation

It is through art, and through art only, that we can realise our perfection.
–Oscar Wilde

Artful beaded earrings include tiny vertebrea, Indonesian glass in warm muted tones, vintage ceramic bead caps from Lithuania, vintage sparkly focals and hand-worked steel wire. Brass leverback. Delightfully asymmetrical, decidedly one of a kind, and ready to ship. Fortune included.

Everywhere You Go Bangle Stack

A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure.  Charlie Chaplin

This lovely bangle stack will take you everywhere, from romantic adventure to poetic dreams. Metal bangles, hand tarnished and wire-wrapped with fiber, lace, string, vintage rhinestones, labradorite, crystal, tribal and seed beads, and old buttons. Glamorous, rustic, post-apocalyptic gypsy boho prettiness. Two are plain and three are embellished, five bracelets total as shown. This elegant stack looks amazing with jeans and boots, a vintage LBD or a simple white tank for summer.

Coraline’s Heart

This is about a very “different” girl named Coraline Jones. She and her parents move into an old Queen Anne Style house that has been subdivided into four flats. The other tenants include Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, two elderly women retired from the stage, and Mr. Bobo, who is training a mouse circus. The flat beside Coraline’s remains empty.

During a rainy day she discovers a locked door in the drawing room, which has been bricked up. As she goes to visit her neighbors, Mr. Bobo relates to her a message from the mice: Don’t go through the door. At tea with Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, Miss Spink spies danger in Coraline’s future after reading her tea leaves, and gives her a stone with a hole in it for protection.

Precious reclaimed battered, sewn and riveted tin heart necklace with mourning ribbon bow, skull and bead dangles and delicate aged brass chain.

Minty Fresh Moth

Minty Fresh Moth is ready to alight upon your lapel, your backpack, a sweater, any place you need a little friend. Best of all, he does NOT eat wool, although would appreciate a small bread crumb from time to time. Minty was once a lovely peppermint candy tin and has been fashioned entirely by hand from this and other vintage reclaimed tin.

Lionel Moth

Lionel Moth is ready to alight gently at your neck, keeping you company all the live-long day. Best of all, he does NOT eat wool, although would appreciate a small bread crumb from time to time. Lionel has been fashioned entirely by hand from vintage reclaimed tea tins in lovely shades of blue and dusky rose. Cut from a pattern, edges sanded, riveted together, and then given a special patina for a lovely aged appearance, he is one of a kind and ready to fly home to you. Necklace moths have a slightly wider wingspan than brooch moths, and are softly curved. I like them best at choker length or maybe a little longer (see last photo).

The last 2 photos show Trevor Moth finished with chain and as worn. Please send a note when purchasing to let me know the COMPLETE length you want your necklace, moth included. I will add the appropriate amount of delicate aged brass chain, and a clasp to give you the perfect fit.

Please note: Although the moth necklaces are truly adorable, and are carefully filed and sanded, I do not consider them appropriate for children.

Special: While all moths are a bit wonky due to the nature of cutting tin, Lionel was the VERY FIRST prototype moth created in the studio and as such, he’s just a little wonkier (around the eyes). Thus, he is discounted by $10. He is a special but not lesser moth! One day he may be highly collectible!

Thee Poison Pen – Oscar Wilde

Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.

All her bright golden hair
Tarnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.

From REQUIESCAT by Oscar Wilde

Resin brooch with beautiful image of the libertine poet, vintage pen nib dangle, and pretty vintage palest pink ribbon. One of a kind, ready to ship. Last image shows similar brooch featuring earliest feminist writer Aphra Behn, also one available.

Special Price: Earl Moth

Earl Moth is ready to alight upon your lapel, your backpack, a sweater, any place you need a little friend. Best of all, he does NOT eat wool, although would appreciate a small bread crumb from time to time. Earl Moth was once a lovely earl grey tea tin and has been fashioned entirely by hand from this and other vintage reclaimed tin. Cut from a pattern, riveted together, and then given a special patina for a lovely aged appearance, he is one of a kind and ready to fly home to you.

Special: Earl is one of my early prototypes, and as such he is extra sweet and collectible. He also has his pinback affixed with a special and highly permanent putty, rather than riveted. It’s not quite as perfect in terms of craft, and his price has been reduced by $10 accordingly. He is different, but no less sturdy. This only affects the back of the brooch.

Last photo shows samples of moth necklaces.

Dirty Circus

Cotton candy, peanuts and the sweet smell of hay… you hold your mother’s hand tight and feel breathless while the acrobats swing through the sky. Sweet little asymmetrical dangles feature vintage findings, glass beads from Indonesia and Europe and coral teeth. These are lovely and fun, like sitting in the big tent on a hot summer day. One of a kind, ready to ship.
