JODI BLOOM, designer and storyteller, is the provocateur behind So Charmed and considers herself beyond lucky to have found a productive and (relatively unless she has a power drill in her hands) safe way to focus her insane non-stop creative energy in the pursuit of glamorous and dangerous jewelry for these glamorous and dangerous times.

A compulsive collector, Jodi turned her obsessions toward beads and charms a few years ago and now boasts a collection large enough to buy Manhatten, at today's prices. The poor girl just can't help herself when it comes to shiny baubles (or shoes, or Cosmopolitans, or kittens, but those are other stories for other times). And, Jodi not only gets to spend her days and nights on the world's most delightful treasure hunt, she also has the truly lovely pleasure of designing and making every single piece of jewelry, as well as creating all of the details--from packaging to Web design--that make So Charmed hum along. The icing on this triple-layer coconut cake is the sweet-as-sugar friendships she is able to forge with her lovely, amazing, and super fun customers the world over.

It's rumored that Jodi doesn't sleep. Yet, when questioned on this point she simply says (with a wry smile): You know, I just bloom where I'm planted.

Still want more info? Are you serious? If so, please check out two interviews. Most recently, I was treated to an interview for Julie Jackson's Crafty Query, which is a section of her supah groovy Subversive Cross Stitch site, just after the launch of our collaboration. A dear little terrycloth primate named monkey of hi!monkey!.net asked the questions over tea; a lovely time was had by all. For an older (2005), but no less fun and informative interview, check out StyleMaven, where you can also read interviews with Jonathan Adler, Stella McCartney and other design luminaries who are much more famous than I.

ON THE HOMEPAGE Regardless, I feel strangely patriotic on the 4th of July, but this year it feels especially great to not be hanging one's American head in shame for the horrendous activities of our government. The city I live in, Takoma Park (named "leftiest burb in America" by the Utne Reader) has an incredible parade, featuring local businesses, marching bands, vintage cars, local politicians, and some kick-ass music/dancing. I'll post photos to Flickr this year.
